- After viewing the images and arguments proposed on the website www.esointelligenza.it,
everyone can deduce the most appropriate conclusions to their expectations.
The author recalls that this is a humanistic research project that attempted to answer the question posed by SETI
(Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) regarding extraterrestrial intelligence.
- The site displayed images of the surface and underwater world of our planet and other celestial bodies:
particularly the Moon, our natural satellite, and the planet Mars.
However, the research archives also include images of the other planets in our Solar System, as well as curious anomalies.
- Published by authoritative sources these images demonstrate that long time ago someone created artworks, visible from the sky, different but similar to cave art.
Considering the size of the artifacts, humanity of the third millennium has so far been unable to produce anything similar.
- In particular the discovered representations predominantly show single or paired and intersecting faces.
A frequent feature is the representation of faces with truncated necks or faces often in front of which there is an apparent and inexplicable object.
- The opinions that have emerged so far are either denialist (it is pareidolia, i.e. mental illusions) or realist
(someone is able to see the images and photograph them or scan them with satellite remote sensing technology).
- In this society, where images often prevail over reflections, humans are subjected to numerous and continuous visual manipulations, forgetting that nature has endowed us with a precious organ: the brain.
This fundamental organ of the central nervous system, protected by the skull, controls all the functions of the human body.
Adult humans possess 86 billion neurons that operate in their brains, organizing themselves to respond to environmental demands.
In the cranial cavity, the left lobe is primarily responsible for functions associated with language and reflection. The right lobe primarily interprets visual and musical information.
Recently neuroscientists at the University of Trento discovered that human newborns' ability to recognize faces is innate.
- People who have a predominantly scientific background can verify the presence of the proposed images by measuring and checking the coordinates of the locations or sources,
so as not to fail to maintain some typical characteristics of scientists: methodical observation, curiosity and precision in collecting data.
- Many people wonder how representatives of religious, scientific, military, and political authorities might react to new interpretations of reality.
In this case, the author suggests watching the film inspired by Karl Sagan's thought: Contact, starring Jodie Foster.
One might also reflect on how contemporaries of Giordano Bruno (who killed him), Galileo Galilei (who condemned him),
or contemporary academics of the fine arts in Paris (who rejected exhibitions by innovative artists at the Salon des Refusés) behaved.
- In carrying out this research, it is likely that errors were made, because "to err is human". The author wishes to assure us that these were not intentional errors.
- Someone might ask “But who could be the people whose faces are depicted on the planets' surfaces?”
The research was not intended to answer this legitimate question.
However, some hypotheses can be suggested. The most popular are the following:
Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has argued that the day we discover the existence of extraterrestrials, it would be better not to contact them,
because they would have the same interest we have in bacteria. Or else the aliens would behave as Europeans did with Native Americans: they would exterminate them.
This opinion stems from the observation that humans behave this way.
José Gabriel Funes, former director of the Vatican Observatory, has publicly argued that
any extraterrestrials “are our brothers”. A potentially positive and collaborative vision.
The Bible's Genesis states that Elohim (a plural Hebrew term for the Creator) created man in "his image and likeness; male and female he created them".
Following a transgression, "he expelled man from the Garden of Eden, from which he had been taken". Humans were likely expelled because they were incapable of respecting the established rules.
Human life on Earth would have the purpose of gradually recognizing this error over the centuries in order to regain access to the life of Eden.
The Ancient Astronaut theory holds that in the distant past, our planet was visited by an extraterrestrial population.
Some of these popular theorists believe that we humans are the product of their exploratory activities.
Various branches of this theory hold that paleocontact occurred (Sumerian deities of Mesopotamia such as the Anunnaki, the Egyptians, the pre-Columbian civilizations who built the pyramids and the Nazca Trails).
The Watchful Angels, described in the apocryphal Jewish text of Enoch, narrate the fall of the celestial angels who rebelled against the Creator and who, by mating with earthly women, brought about human corruption.
These hypotheses have cultural value, but not scientific value, because according to scientists they are unproven.
It should also be remembered that scientists often come after science fiction.
It's enough to recall the French writer Jules Verne when he wrote "From the Earth to the Moon," a novel published in 1870 in which the author anticipated by 104 years the historic moon landing that actually occurred with the Apollo 11 space mission in 1969.
A widespread stereotype maintains the difference between scientific and humanistic knowledge: the former is based on quantitative facts and experiments, the latter on critical analysis and interpretation of texts and qualitative values.
Recently, this stereotype seems to have been overcome by an integration of the two fields of research.
